Target Audience Profile.
The target audience for my crime/drama film is males and females from the ages of 16 to 25. Even though I believe that my film would appeal to most people, I have chosen to use 16 to 25 year olds as my main target audience. I have chosen older teenagers and adults as they would be single and in social class E. This would mean they are part-time students and unemployed, living with parents or at university. They would ideally be sixth form, college or university students, studying English, psychology or law. They would be intelligent and will understand the plot of the crime/drama easily. My target audience enjoys going out with friends, particularly to the cinema to watch films. They are very sociable and are also close with family. They would have a fun and bubbly personality and are very interested in law and the legal side to crimes. Their hobbies would include shopping with friends, playing sport and watching crime/drama films.
‘Maslow’s hierarchy of needs’ is a physiological theory by Abraham Maslow. The theory claims that in order to be experiencing one layer, the layers below must be experienced and complete before moving on to the next one. I also believe that my target audience would be on the last level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, self-actualisation. Sixth form, college or university would aid my target audience to accomplish the last level, completely achieving the ‘hierarchy of needs’.
The different layers are as follows:
transcendence: helping others to self-actualise etc.
self-actualisation needs: personal growth and self-fulfilment etc.
aesthetic needs: beauty and balance etc.
cognitive needs: self-awareness and meaning etc.
esteem and confidence needs: responsibility and reputation etc.
love and belonging needs: work, relationships and affection etc.
safety needs: security and stability etc.
biological and physiological needs: basic life needs - air, food and drink etc.
